Using the Travel Distance Calculation module, it is possible to calculate distances traveled by employees, both commuting between home and work and traveling between different work locations. The distance can be used in the form of the number of kilometers or as the number of kilometers multiplied by an amount per kilometer in an export for payroll processing.
Incorrectly geolocated addresses
Maps are created based on material from HERE: the most recent addresses and roads can be seen at https://wego.here.com.
In exceptional cases, the distance between two addresses may not be calculated correctly in ORTEC WS. You can check this by entering the values for ‘X coordinate’ and ‘Y coordinate’ in the Data Management view in ORTEC WS into Google. This way, you can verify where ORTEC WS has geolocated the address. In the satellite image, you can possibly see if it concerns a new residential area.
It is possible that an address is not on the route map. This can especially occur with newly built addresses. The first step is to find out if the address is visible on https://wego.here.com. If the address is found there, it is likely that after a map update in ORTEC WS, the address will also be found.
Given X and Y
Besides a map update, it is possible to improve the accuracy of the address by entering the correct coordinates yourself in the fields Given X and Given Y. This will then override the geolocated X and Y coordinates.
This can be used when a new residential area is not yet on the map. Then find a road as close as possible nearby and enter the coordinates of that road. In this way, the deviation will be minimal.
Here are a few points to note:
-
Enter the correct X and Y. Then clear the Location in OMR field and click Save.
- Often, the distance from this address to another address is already stored in OWS's memory because the map has been opened. To make the changed distance according to the given X and Y visible on the map, a restart in OWS is required.
Periodically check accuracy and geolocated address
It may also be wise to periodically check the accuracy and geolocated address of the entered address. The accuracy of the address and the geolocated address can be added to the overview as follows:
The advice is to check addresses below 90% precision at least once. If the geolocated address is correct, no action is required. If it is incorrect, a given X and Y coordinate can be added.
